Editor and prime reporter is Doug Terry, a veteran television and radio reporter in   Washington, DC, (details below)

Below is a list of newspapers, with links, covering news of the state of Maryland. Of course, the newspapers in Washington, DC cover considerably more than news about Maryland, but most of the others listed stick fairly close to home. The Baltimore papers, once part of the large city tradition of media, are owned by the bankrupt Tribune company and, like most newspapers across America, have undergone forceful reductions in reporting staff and national reach.

Just when newspapers are experiencing the most important challenge to their relevance in the last two hundred fifty years, they are cutting back and eliminating some of the reasons people turn to them for news and information. This would make sense if the reductions were followed by a clear, new direction, but, as yet, that has eluded newspaper management. Instead, they are cutting to please Wall Street and to demonstrate they know how to run a profitable business in tough times. That is not a long term strategy to be successful, unless success just happens to thrust itself on them.

One of the best, most lucid and well written American history books I have ever read. This is not merely history, it is the story of much of the creation of the American nation as it entered into a long, horrid conflict with the native peoples. Reading this, you will come to understand the battles between Indians and whites with more clarity than ever before. Personalities come alive and vivid writing carries you through. Out in quality paperback now.
