If you are going to be active in politics, or even vote, you, America, need to understand just how bad the Democrats are. They are dangerous to us all! If they get their way, they will destroy America! This kind of overheated nonsense is normal for Newt Gingrich. It is, in fact, his stock and trade, as detailed elsewhere on The TerryReport. This kind of talk will not cease, with not abate, from the right and the far right until a new generation of more reasoned leadership pushes Gingrich and his gang permanently out of the public eye or until the voters insist on change. (One would think that Gingrich, having resigned from Congress because of a flagrant, on-going affair that came during the Clinton impeachment mess, would at least have been slowed down, but no.) The right wants you to believe that it is not just a matter of “policy” differences between them and the Dems. Oh, no. This is big stuff we’re talking about. Survival of the nation. We good, them bad, them very, very bad. Gingrich discovered something very important about the news media a long time ago. If you are in a position of power, you can say anything you damn please and the media have to report it. There’s no one standing up in the back of the room saying, “Hey, shut up, stupid”. Just put stuff out there and make it sound real and, after repeating and blending, it becomes, over time, treated as fact. This is a large measure of why we are in so much trouble now: if truth doesn’t matter, what does? |
