This shows rotation developing inside the front that passed over the Olney Town Center shopping around around 7:20 PM, 4.27.11

People in the shopping center were awe struck watching the rotation develop right over their heads.

Another view looking north across Town Center parking.

This is a photo taken in the parking area of the new Harris-Teeter store. The actual lighting was a combination of bright sun and dark clouds as the storm front moved through. This is a color photo.

From the adjacent shopping area, looking toward Town Center. This shot could be mistakened as showing a funnel approaching. It is, instead, the cloud bank that contained the rotation.

The clouds as they start to move over Town Center shopping area

This appendage down from the clouds is most likely an affect of rotation in the upper level, not significant or heavy rotation near the ground. The video of tornados going through Alabama Wednesday, however, makes clear that they can’t always be seen. It could be there was a tornado in these clouds at the time. (Most tornados never touch the ground) As the bank of clouds departed the shopping area, a distinct funnel could be seen over the tops of the buildings to the northeast, but there were some reports of trees being taken down a few miles away, but no major property damage was reported. Baltimore television reported a tornado or tornados were seen in the air by radar over Brookeville, about four miles from Olney.
